Electric Abstraction is multi instrumentalist Steve Diel majoring in keyboard based Symphonic Progressive Rock, and minoring in Contemporary Instrumental. In this world, Steve likes to spend most of his time in melody land, and not so much time lying around in pastures, or floating around in the atmosphere.

In a world of dehydrated cookie cutter music and the bottom line being more important than art, Steve strives to create something with more substance. Steve's purpose for making music is simply for the enjoyment of others, as well as his own enjoyment. He doesn't care if he never makes a dime doing it. He wishes only to create music for music's sake, and art for art's sake.

If a record Executive were to offer him a contract, Steve would tell that exec where to stick it. Steve wishes to maintain absolute freedom to make whatever music is in his heart. Should only a handful of people enjoy his music, it's well worth it in his book.

Steve is influenced by 5 main types of music including but not limited to:

  1. Progressive Rock/Metal--Bands like Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Neal Morse, The Flower Kings, Glass Hammer, The Tangent, Kaipa, Transatlantic, Jadis, IQ, Salem Hill, Cryptic Vision, Symphony X, Keith Emerson, Kansas and Yes.
  2. Instrumental Rock--Artists like the Steve Morse Band, Dixie Dregs, Yngwie Johann Malmsteen's instrumental stuff, recent Michael Schenker, Marty Friedman, Uli Jon Roth, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani.
  3. New Age--Artists like Kitaro, Jerry Goodman, 2002, Secret Garden, David Arkenstone, Chip Davis, Clara Ponty, Liz Story, Karl Jenkins, John Tesh, Vangelis, Constance Demby, Yanni, Medwyn Goodall, Wayne Gratz, David Lanz, and Tangerine Dream.
  4. Smooth Jazz and Jazz Fusion--Artists like Keiko Matsui, David Bach, Niacin, Kenso, David Benoit, Fourplay, Spyro Gyra, The Rippingtons, Dotsero, Chick Corea, and George Duke.
  5. Classical--Mainly the composers Mussorgsky, JS Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov, Debussy, Brahms, Liszt, Beethoven, Schumann and Mendelssohn.

Drawing from these many and varied influences, Steve's music covers many genre's, yet at the same, time its own genre, "prog age." He's been told his music resembles Happy The Man, Tomas Bodin and Mike Oldfield
